Bike Heart

Erin and I headed up to Twin Peaks, San Francisco (at this exact location) with our good friend Sally Carson. She loves her bikes. Like, a lot. Especially this one. It's pretty rad actually. Here she is rockin out at the top of the hill.

    strobist: 3 x SB-900 on a Lastolite TriFlash all @ 1/1 @ 17mm into Big Mama 3' away.

Excellent composition. Really like the angle and the position/proportion of all the elements. As the shadows blend into silhouettes, negative space becomes positive. In other words, in the foreground, darkness is where stuff isn't, but against the sky it's where stuff is. It borders on illustrating Gestalt principles (this is the kind of stuff I'm especially interested in, in photography). The sunburst is obviously a really nice touch too — as are the flares coming from it (opposite of center).

A beyond the ordinary perspective on a romantic sunset. While your friend managed to keep her balance on the bike you did equally well in balancing ambient and Softbox light. Love this photo!

That was an exercise in not getting blown off the hill. I'm impressed that Sally could hold on. I still have a dent in my finger from gripping one of the softbox wires as we moved locations. :)
