Day One Hundred Fifty One

Day One Hundred Fifty One by Dustin Diaz.
151/365. It's like a ghost town out here. I see the random, not so smart people, riding scooters every now and then ~ Mark Darress

Here's a scooter. Yeah, that's pretty much it.

On the news front, I got around to buying a new domain for my newly designed blog (same blog, new look and name). Check it out at TheStrobistDen.com. I am completely aware that 95% of the folks reading this are interested in only the 365... but I'm just preparing for "post-365" when I'm doing normal photography again. I also chose the name Strobist Den because it will allow me to focus more on a narrow topic rather than "anything photography" which usually causes me to think too much (must avoid brain aneurysms).

And finally, I wanted to call out those who bring up the "Nikon vs. Canon" hoopla. Some asked if I have switched, others think I take better pictures with a Canon.

No, I haven't switched. I'm borrowing my wife's camera — but I don't expect anyone to keep up with my daily writings. The D700 is still in shop, although I plan on selling it for a D3 when it comes back.

And as I always say, anyone who thinks their photos are better because of a camera, is... not very intelligent to put it nicely. Especially when comparing two pro cameras like a 5D2 and a D3. In simple terms, I could have probably taken this same shot with both cameras and nobody would be able to tell the difference. Probably not even myself.

Ok, enough blabber. I made another video, but don't expect these to last much longer — I'm just having some fun for the interim.

Great photo and love the videos and setup shots.. keep it going. It's both motivating and resource full learning. And by the way, just keep doing what every feels right to you.. don't let others dictate how, what, when and where you should shoot.

One other note... If you got time, maybe you could do an comment on you post processing workflow.

sweet scooter - I've gotta disagree with the guy a few comments up, I think the leaf/flower thing adds to the shot.
And totally agree with the nikon/canon thing - it's always struck me as a little silly to be arguing which is better.

I like the shot, something different. It has made the scooter very slick.

The Canon v Nikon thing is a nonsense really. Whatever fits. Each has Pros and Cons. I recently switched to Nikon, a D700, but have kept my Canon 40D as I think it is a cracking camera for other situations. I looked at the 5D MK II nad felt the D700 fitted my purposes better.

I am a member of a gamer forum and you should see the childish arguments that erupt between PS3 and 360 users!!!

At a party some one asked me what was the best camera (spying my D700) The answer I gave was this:
The BEST camera out there is the one you have with you!

I think you would do well with a Polaroid!

Il like the way the light shines on the front of the scooter.......

Hello Dustin , since you touch the topic canon nikon, good I think that a good photographic eye can do a good photo, with an any camera, the photo is to express the life, the things in it takes, that logically he says very much.

Differences will have them Nikon does more noise to major iso, canon is acceptable, little noise to major iso. For example

I have used Nikon it is very expensive for my taste, canon is a little cheaper for my pocket. lol

It is a taste question....

It does not matter your work is very good and I like very much.

Lo mas cojonudo son los strobist, molan mucho....

Un saludo Amigo....

Great shot as always.

Why "The Strobist Den"? Aren't you concerned with being confused with the blog "The Strobist" which has a huge following already on Flickr as well as his blog? I would think you would want to establish something uniquely your own? Just wondering.

Great work!

As a beginner photographer, I am just starting to learn what all those buttons on my camera actually do. I love the fact that I can look at a photo Dustin did and then actually see how he accomplished it. Although I would agree about the art and eye of photo taking and that it can be accomplished with any camera. From what I learned over the weekend in trying to do some shallow depth of field shots... And wondering why it wasn't working... It seems that a good lens with a low f stop is Really important! Especially if you when trying to replicate the way Dustin's images are focused on a item and you get that really cool blur background. Again, I'm a beginner so there might be a way of getting this effect without the expensive low fstop lenses that i just might not be aware of.

Dustin, there is something about your shots what makes me always look them up. Love the feeling you put in them. Thank you for that. As for this one, I love it except for the slightly blueish cast on the front front wheel. Not sure if it was intentional or not.

D2 thanks again for another awesome shot. Part of the draw to a photographer such as yourself is the awesome personality that goes along with each image. A lot of photographers just snap away and expect people to like there images. You orchestrate each image and seem truly grateful for the praise and recognition. It's greatly appreciated. I also agree with the point about the camera and the photographer. Just because you have the fastest car, doesn’t mean you know how to drive it around the track! Thanks man!
