Corn on the cob, Indian style, in CT

Corn on the cob, Indian style, in CT by .Manisha..
So it got a little burnt. But we enjoyed it. I was having bhutta - corn roasted directly on the grill - after years!

The way to really enjoy it is to slather it with red chilli powder, salt and/or chaat masala and some lime juice. Yum!

Wanna know what we do when we roast em on the grill? We leave the husk on, which gets black, but it holds the steam inside...and results in...uh...although, I must say that visually-speaking, yours are quite interesting!

Karela nu shaak? I need to investigate your recipe as I've just bought a few and am in need of a new recipe.

mollyan, I think so too! Glad you liked that recipe. I learnt it from Tai's m-i-l. :-D

labaloo, you skip the soak in water part? I much prefer the Indian way. Try it!

labaloo, remove the husk and roast it directly on the grill or in the flames, turning it over constantly so that it does not burn. Then take half a lemon, dip it in some salt, red chilli powder and chat masala and spread it on the cob, squeezing the lemon as you go. Yum! Corn is called maize in India (I'm sure the cultivars are different, too), the kernels aren't as sweet and are slightly tougher, too.

Hmmm...so the kernels get the carmelizing treatment eh? That sounds quite good...salt, lemon, chiles, chaat masala....and much healthier than slathering it with salted butter! Thanks.

Maize....glad its called by its rightful name somewhere. I found a recipe for sweet-corn ice cream that I've wanted to try sometime...weird huh? and no vanilla! But I think i recall a Thai sweet of maize kernals in sweet coconut milk.
