Immoveable

Immoveable

Once in a while, two rocks find themselves in each other's orbits. The world may swirl and crash about them, but they remain obstinately side by side. For on some evenings, the sun scatters itself in glorious display.

Fire, water, earth, air

Fire, water, earth, air

As a friend reminds me: a crescendo of the elements in twilight.

Spring snow-melt changes the water level at Baker Lake significantly, filling up the lake until the far side of this campfire ring was in water. Lucky for us, this little ring was well-used in the weeks before our visit, leaving just enough ash for a magical fire.

Another one from the archives and possibly one of my favorite photos ever snapped.

Spongy (st)bone

Spongy (st)bone

Saltwater erodes sandstone making little pockets where algae set up house and protect the lacunae walls from further erosion. Reminds me of spongy bone... I love how nature repeats structures and patterns within us and outside of us.

Within our bones, osteocytes calcify the surrounding tissue, creating little trabeculae that are constantly built and repositioned in the perfect matrix to withstand stresses placed on the bone. And in the hollow spaces we make around 200 billion of red blood cells a day. Yep - billions. Kinda boggles my mind to picture that amount.
