The Menagerie

Very nice touch.
Someone has stolen
the sneakers... ;-P
hehe I knew someone would notice. I photoshopped them out, then liked them in there and painted the mask back white again sadly it was later in the process so putting them back in there would of been too hard. *sigh*
I like these back dimples ^^
=D
Batz maru was my favorite! What a lovely melancholy, hm?
Great shot and drawing, but the photo doesn't blend with the angle of the bricks on the wall.
The Menagerie by Poe Tatum.
They say as an artist you are reflected in your own works. I tend to agree, a little piece of me goes into each image I create. I doesn't matter if that image is Photoshopped or straight out of my camera. I fuss over it and dote over it like any parent might do with their child. That is an odd statement from me too since I'm not in the least bit maternal ordinarily. Yet I think of my artworks are pieces of me sometimes they behave and come naturally other times I have to guide them to fruition. Sometimes though I go back and reflect on them and I see that it's my soul laid bare and you are invited to see me at my most vulnerable.

Shot info:
Camera used Hasselblad H3D II-50 Medium Format

I seem to remember a softbox and 1000watt light turned somewhere on it's power level someplace or other. Oh there was a 900watt monolight into umbrella too. I was really freaking stoned though, I pushed the button and the AC pack went off. Sorry I fail elitist strobist info blurbs. :(

Thank you so much Senna glad you liked it! I just don't see what's so important with which way I aimed by light and which baffle and light model I used. Though I might be looking at it the wrong way, you can oggle the camera though, it's technoporn :D

I love the layers of self reference here. You're talented enough that being self referential is a very good thing. Beautiful work! =)

With children, you pass some of yourself on to them, but you don't really create them. They are their own people and no matter how good a parent you are, they may still grow up to be a Republican. With art, you have more control, but just like with kids, once you put it out there, you don't know what's going to happen.

WOW, I stared at this for such a long time. I really love this picture Poe! Each of your "children" always takes my breath away. And sort of like people, it inspires, provokes thought and causes an emotion. Your work is amazing as always, love the message!

There's all kinds of things I perceive, though are not necessarily what you had intended. For instance, I like how it looks like you're in a prison cell, perhaps making it more like home. Or I imagine the room is actually empty, and everything in it is in your head. You're staring at a blank wall, projecting your life onto it. As Hannibal Lechter said, "What I have, Agent Starling, is a memory instead of a view."

I'm not sure if I'm "good enough" for anything, but I am certainly reflective. The analogy of my art as my children is mostly about how it will be perceived. I'm hard on them in hopes that they stand on their own one day. :D I'm a little less romantic about it than this implies but the analogy stands well enough. Glad you liked the picture. :D

*blush* you made me blush, haha. Glad you liked the photo Georgia Peach. :D

Will thank you so much Tasha I'm glad you liked it. I'm truly amazed when anyone likes anything I do artistically. It makes me feel like my time wasn't wasted. So, thank you for such a wonderful comment! :D

Thanks Steven, very honored you enjoy it! :D

I'm very glad you liked it! Yeah it's got a number of elements that really attracted the eye, while (I think) it's not overly busy. Thank you for the invite as well! :)

ROFL I'll never tell :P

You know there are clearly elements to the prison cell and that it's also in my head. When I am imagining a shot or a composite I see it in my head first well in advance (sometimes) of actually doing the shot or the compositing. But when that comes out into the real world it's always different than when I saw it in my head. That being the organic "real world" nature of art. So what you saw is not far off the mark and quite accurate. :D

Thank you :D

Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

yeah I really think of my art as my children and went them (it) to do well in this world. After all I love each and every one of them (some are bigger pains than others though).

Thank you very much, glad you liked it :)

Thank you so much for such a great comment and compliment! I tried to make it look unedited while being edited (though less than one might think). Glad you liked it! :D
