poppies! by Pocket Farmer

poppies!

We accidentally bought a pack of mixed color California Poppies.

I think accidents like that should happen more often.

chicken posse by Pocket Farmer

chicken posse

Our chicks are now five weeks old. The "meat blobs" moved out to the chicken tractor a few days ago, and I'm keeping the eggers in the shed for another week or two since the nights are still surprisingly cool.

It turned out that the friend I order chicks with got the distribution all wrong (my Speckled Sussex and his Americaunas looked nearly identical). We swapped them out on Saturday, so now everyone is in their rightful home.

He got an extra Buff Orpington that he sent home with me, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's another rooster. I may already have three: the Sussex roo I ordered, the "mystery" chick, and a second Sussex roo that was a freebie. That's a lot of cock-a-doodle-doo.

This is going to be the Summer of the Skirt. That is, if summer ever gets here.

peep peep peep! by Pocket Farmer

peep peep peep!

We interrupt our parade of finished sewing projects to bring you the latest additions to Pocket Farm.

Sixteen little fluffballs arrived in the mail yesterday morning... our usual dozen "meatblobs", joined by a few egg-layer chicks (Speckled Sussex).

After having ducks for five years, I'm looking forward to new adventures in chicken raising.
