HK97b

Who lives here?
HK97b by pmorgan.
Inspired by Michael Wolf's photos of Hong Kong buildings, but probably originally by the urbanization section of the Massive Change exhibit.

Good inspiration for a fantastic shot. Quite scary, all those lives in just that one building.

That looks indescribable.

That must look uncannily in reality.

I will travel to China this year, and also visit Hong Kong.

Am already very strained on the impressions

Added HK97b to the emergence group. If emergence theory includes a relatively few simple rules producing extraordinary complexity, perhaps urbanization fits. People migrate to a city because they preceive a better life. People choose where to live based on affordability, friends/family, work, location, etc. Urban planners try, to varying degrees of success, to steer where people live. Builders try to anticipate where people will want to live. Result: mega-cities with their own dynamics (ala Jane Jacobs).

CottonCandy has an interesting shot of a Hong Kong building, also.

This captures the density of lives in HK so well. I tell my friends that NY is like the burbs in comparison.

That's scary! I imagine there must be a mathematical formula that allows this to remain standing, but I wouldn't want to chance it! ;-)

Amazing. I've seen taller apartment houses. But somehow this one takes the prize for looking the most densely packed. Mind blowing. It's hard to believe there's any sense of community about this place.

Isn't the invention of the elevator an amazing thing?! Because of it we can put thousands of people on top of each other on a very small plot of land.

Great shot. Thanks for sharing.
