Coffee Contemplation

Coffee Contemplation

I got a chance to meet up with my friend Evan the other day for a great chat, sushi, and coffee on Bloor Street. It was an awesome afternoon, and I snapped this shot while we were sitting in Aroma east of Spadina. Ev's got an awesome purple shirt on which went really well with the other colours in the shot, but there's something about the B&W for this shot that makes me like it even more this way. 5D2+35L. Thanks for stopping by :)

The Face of Simple Happiness

The Face of Simple Happiness

Max again, my second-favourite subject after my lovely girlfriend Heather :) I still cannot get over how much he absolutely loves winter, especially playing in the snow. The only time I've seen him happier is when he's rolling in the sand on the beach at the cottage in Midland.

This was my first test of action+135L+5D2 today and it proved fairly productive. It took a bit to get used to the lightning speed of focus and how quickly I'd lose focus if I moved off-target and I missed a fair number of awesome shots, but I was pretty happy with what I got :) Max is definitely becoming a bit of a ham for the camera, but I'm okay with that :D

Thanks for stopping by!!

Symmetry and Snowfall

Symmetry and Snowfall

The first time I walked through the Village at York University I loved the symmetry and repetition of shapes and designs in the alleys between streets. One could say that it's boring and has little imagination, but its the general conformity between the homes and garages that intrigues me. This scene the other night was something I had imagined for quite some time, and I was grateful to have been able to capture it under such interesting circumstances :) Thanks for stopping by!

Finally some snow in TO

Finally some snow in TO

First real experience shooting with the 135 on my 5D tonight, in the midst of one of Toronto's largest snowstorms this winter. Kinda pitiful, but still exciting - we're expecting a whole whopping 5cm by the morning, then it'll all melt with the rain! It's all due to the good old Arctic Oscillation being intensely positive this winter, which is keeping the Polar Jet stream much further north than usual. I guess I'll have to make due with what winter we are graced with this year :)

2000.12.11.1200Z

2000.12.11.1200Z

I was pretty busy this evening, working on my synoptic meteorology homework, but I was able to get it finished with a decent amount of time left in my night. When I was finished, I saw that I'd made a pretty neat pile of pencil shavings during my nephanalysis and I though, "wow, that could make a cool picture!" I got out my new 35mm and put my flash on my light stand and messed around a bit until I found the side light and point of view I wanted.

I don't do still-life photos very often, but this speaks to me, if only because it combined two of my loves - weather and photography. Thanks for stopping by!
