meeting merlin mann
I sure do look like I'm in pain. In an attempt to make a goofy face for the camera, I really just showed the world my ample cheeks and my on-the-john face.
Valerie and I, both listeners of several 5by5.tv podcasts (especially Back to Work), decided to check out Brown Owl Coffee while vacationing in San Francisco this past week. We'd seriously just stepped off the L-Taraval and down the street walked Merlin himself.
And really, he's just as pleasant and generous with fans as people say. He also talks just a bit faster than even I can keep up - I didn't realize until after the fact that his talking about Davy Jones and The Monkees song "Valerie" was a mnemonic for remembering both of our names. So I didn't catch that he thought my name was Dave until he tweeted about our encounter. No matter - he was super friendly, walked Val and I over to Brown Owl and introduced us to the owner, and then actually apologized for having to leave for something that he was headed to before being interrupted by nerdy fans.
Oh yeah, and Brown Owl Coffee freaking ROCKS. Absolutely delicious. They roast their own beans (quite well, judging by the taste of the final product) and they really know how to make a cappuccino.
