A local building is powered by an eight-foot high plug... by Tom Coates.
So from the comments I'm getting, people don't quite get the perspective here. This is a picture of a building! The plug socket and plug on the wall is approximately fifteen feet off the ground (maybe higher). The plug socket is - what - ten feet tall? Maybe more? It's awesome.

It's just off Carnaby Street in London, if you're interested. In fashionable Soho.

You can see another picture of it (only with real human beings in for perspective) here

Yeah, you know the thing is that it is actually *really* big. We were talking about this when I took the photo - that people would just think it was a picture of a weird piece of equipment from a strange angle. Let me clarify - the plug itself is about six to eight feet tall. The plug socket is probably ten feet tall. It's about fifteen feet off the ground and the freaky looking device you're looking at is a building :oD

I used to work in an office above the Shaston Arms. My desk looked straight onto that building. The plug arrived as part of the Christmas decorations about 3 years ago, and kept on being granted extended planning permission. I couldn't stand staring at it all day every day - I had to change desk.

Oh, and remembering the artist's statement, it's a plug because the building used to be an electricity substation. Jeez.

I like it (even though its got lame tendencies and I don't have to look at it for 8 hours like ChrisDodo). Seeing it with people in the frame tells the story.

Thanks! That's incredibly helpful. I'll amend the description to put that link into it too.
