070707 Wedding Poster
This is a scan of a wedding invitation mini-poster that I just finished designing and screenprinting for Sarah Wert, a girl I went to college with. She lives in San Francisco now but contacted me because she remembered my work and thought I'd be a good match for what she wanted: a fun little poster in the spirit of fair and circus posters, inviting people to a very unique "destination" wedding set at her family's farm in the rolling hills of eastern Pennsylvania.
The next bunch of photos documents some of the process and how we arrived at this final poster, from research images to sketching and lettering, composition and color mockups in photoshop, and finally screenprinting in my spare bedroom with my newly-acquired screenprinting equipment (purchased for this job, but I will be doing more in the near future!).

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. And awww, thank you so much p.j. (hey, nice initials!), that's very sweet. I wouldn't ordinarily find myself in the "wedding invitation" business, but this was a cool project and quite different from your standard "elegant minimalist invitation". And I'm very excited to be screenprinting again after an 8-year hiatus. Watch for more stuff soon: cards, posters, stickers and more touching on various themes that are near and dear to me. :)

I hope ours looks this nice.

Erin, ours will be even nicer! It will be a stunningly-framed and focused medium-format photo of us, in or near a colorful-yet-dilapidated building in either Vandalia or Breedsville. I'll take the negative and scratch the type into it using some kind of Jeweler's instruments, and it will be awesome.

Very nice. I'll be sure to call you up to the plate when it's time to design my wedding invitations.
So keep your calendar open for... never.

PJ, Joe and I cannot thank you enough. We are so amazed by the posters and all of the time, energy, and thought you put in to them - you are the real deal. I hope you make millions of dollars one day. :-) We sent them out on Sunday and nearly the entire country has received them. We've been overwhelmed with phone calls telling us how rad they are. Thank you again and again. My mom cried.

Wow, really cool. Someday I am going to spring for a screen printing class here in chicago.
I stumbled across your ramble site while surfing the internet pining a scooter. Anyway, I have also browsed your site and I am really impressed with all your work. It's inspiring! Keep it up.

Hi man,
Your work is amazing! If you ask me you should search for more 777 weddings and offer them your invitation. If I was getting married on 07.07.07 I surely was happy to use it :-) Well done!
