Crazy Quilt 1

    The description card reads,
    "Crazy Quilt 1883-1893
Silk, cotton, wool, and linen, pieced and embroidered with silk and cotton threads
Crazy quilts, which emerged after 1850, were usually composed of small, irregular-shaped fragments of silk, wool, and other fragments pieced together. The seams were then embroidered using a variety of stitches. They acquired the name “crazy quilts” because of the strong colors and busy, confusing nature of their designs, typical of Victorian taste."

My favorite kind of quilt, hands down. So exquisitely rich in colors, textures. I used to own one that I bought in an antique store in Tenn.... but sadly it fell apart after many years bec it was over 100 years old.

I am requesting permission to use this exquisite image of a crazy quilt in a book that I am writing entitled Peace Fibres: Stitching a Soulful World. In it, I enlist fibre work as metaphor and manifestation of harmonious relationship to self, others, and the larger world. I would use this photograph in a chapter that focuses on quilting as an avenue for healing connection.

May I use this image? Please advise of any fees involved. I would, of course, cite your website as source. Peace Fibres will be self published through Integral Press. I anticipate printing in early 2011, with an initial run of 1200.

Thanks for considering my request. I look forward to your response.
      Respectfully,
      Karen Lohn
