Dear TLC, you're doing it wrong.
I love companies that jump into social media without any idea of what the heck they're doing and without caring what people are saying to them.
Did they forget the "social" in social media? It's not a one-to-many communications medium. It's a many-to-many. You need to be prepared to converse with (not speak to!) your constituents.
First, TLC's programming department uses the wrong overlay, promoting Facebook in their "Follow TLC on Foursquare" promotion. Yes, I've seen it a number of times.

Then, TLC gets careless about their own social media presence on Facebook which has potential to reach millions of members.
I checked out your Facebook wall and it's the spammiest thing I've seen in a long time.
TLC, you don't get it. And normally I'd drop this, but I tried to get your attention on Twitter. However, your Twitter is wholly automated -- and I've tweeted the Foursquare/Facebook thing to you twice already. I guess you're not paying attention since you're more concerned about promoting your shows. Yeah, I know it's Labor Day, but your tweets were scheduled in advance (and the message I sent you was brought to your attention last Wednesday). We're not stupid.

As a note, TLC sent me a personal email but they ignored my response to them. They explained the Foursquare/Facebook issue as legitimate (since they were polling users on FACEBOOK to find places where Foursquare badges can be given) but I don't buy it since wall posts get pushed down pretty darn quickly, and they have yet to admit that they totally screwed that up.
I had this whole blog post about the above (which they pulled when I brought it to their attention) but had to scrap it. Honestly, the measly follow-through makes me reconsider that post. If you're going to be defensive about a fuck up, you still don't get it.
