Fence Friday PART 1 • WARNING: Not a pretty fence!
This was taken at Baker Beach in San Francisco (back in April). I came for the bridge. But as usual, the bridge was, for the most part, submerged in a fog bank. It was misty and a light rain began to fall. So my lens turned towards the sandy terrain, the wildflowers and of course the fences. The fence posts were dotted, here and there with lichen, ravens and seagulls.
Does this particular raven look diabolical? They have such a poor reputation don't they? These birds are huge and just a bit menacing ... and a bit unnerving how close you can get to one ... as it stares you down. And here he is, not flinching; sitting on a remarkable fence post! The title is from a song by Alan Parsons entitled, "The Raven;" which of course stems from the Edgar Allen Poe Poem, "The Raven."
What was really crazy was this hyperactive dog (a pit bull). He was quite insane ... leaping and barking in the midst of a flock of ravens. The entire flock was dive bombing his head. "Dude! What's up with your dog?" I ask his owner (a quintessential California dude complete with the ubiquitous surf board). The dude replied that he drops by the beach every day ... and every day his dog goes berserk over the ravens! It is like the ravens are just waiting for him to arrive. Check out the image in comments ... I wish I had actually gotten it with the dog in it!
Happy "Nevermore" Fence Friday!
