Yeah they are tasty. I wouldn't eat this one though, not since we've bonded.

Cute cow but the tag tells the real story. To the slaughter house you go.

This is good. You got real close, the cows have attitude, the misty atmosphere is nice. The cows that flank the central subject add to the interest and depth.

I like the visual on this. Not as good as this one in the safe in terms of narrative, but the closeup is good. Pity about the cows in the background, as I would have preferred just the main one in frame.

i totally disagree with tom about the background... i actually wish there were a couple more cows in the distance.
however i wish for a bit more contrast... just a hair... although it's probably the fault of the weather...
oh yeah, i also don't like the frame size... feels cropped only to mimick her headshape.

I see a lot of "too soft" (there's only 1 here) but I like it this way you shouldn't sharpen this one.
Some people sharpen too much!

It is a lovely cow.
But it's not a keeper.

I'm glad I don't eat them either.

It's still what's for dinner...and you don't put dinner in The Safe.

I dig "the look" though. The one on the left almost has that "got get 'em, I got yer back" look going on. The one in front has his bad ass look on.

Excellent portait of the cow.

I especially like the one in the back looking over "her" "shoulder"... like those people at the back of a reporter in a crowded street...

Thanks Zadignose - it's one of my favourites too. I went out photographing very early in the morning - it was misty, mild and very, very peaceful. The cows were very cooperative too!

I think this photo is perfect, just the way you have it.

And while I don't know the situation around this specific ear tag, I'm almost certain it has no indication that the animal is prepped for slaughter. We have Icelandic wool sheep and the ear tags in our case are simply to identify the animal for breed registration and to indicate that we participate in a health monitoring program. We have no intention of ever shipping them off for slaughter.

Great job on this photo.
