'Kiang'- rare wild Tibetan donkeys
We saw no wild animals other than birds of prey for two weeks. Then on one snowy morning north of Mato (Ch Maduo) rare 'kiang' (wild donkeys) showed themselves.

Ethnic Tu lady
After traveling north for 2.000 kilometres from Gyalthang (Ch Zhongdian) we finally left the ethnic Tibetan region near Xining. But their culture and religion has spread yet further northward. The Tu ethnic people in Huzhu adhere to the Tibetan strain of Buddhism. And far beyond of course Mongolian culture has absorbed Tibetan influence as well.
