      They said that Saudi Arabia wasn't such a strict place back then. Women were roaming in Jeddah without wearing the Abaya.

      Jeddah has always been the "easiest" town in the Kingdom because of the Haj, which brings in people from all over the world.
      Still .... I encountered some quite severe moments while taking pictures in 1982/83 in the country. I have been arrested many times but by using my complete innocency, most of the time they let me go. Many other expats were less lucky :-(

      Yeah, I have a friend who had a Malaysian guest and the said visitor snapped a photo of the Kingdom Tower. In a snap, the police picked him up, interrogated him, and "detained" him for a day.

      Talk about tourism.

      Why should they actually open the Kingdom to tourism?
      No Peeping Tom's wanted! They still have enough "black gold" to get the dollars in!
