Nature Therapy.
Taken during a short trip with friends to Sg. Chiling, Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor Malaysia.
Sungai Chiling, Kuala Kubu Bharu
Sungai Chilling is a popular waterfall spot at the base of Fraser's Hill, located after the dam from Kuala Kubu Bharu. On weekends, Sungai Chilling attracts many visitors from urban centers and cities such as Kuala Lumpur, along with the occasional international tourist. Besides being a recreational park, the river has also been gazetted as a fish sanctuary, for one of the local species of mahseer called 'Tengas'. Access is by a small entrance with an arch along the trunk road to Fraser's Hill, immediately after the first narrow steel bridge. There is a small clearing for you to park your car, but do not display any items of value on the seat or dashboard.
From the entrance, a short trek will take you to the camping site and office, where after registering and paying MYR1 toll (disguised as a toilet fee for the restrooms), you proceed on the main forest trail (starts after the suspension bridge) towards the waterfall. Depending on your speed and fitness, the riverside walk should take between 20 and 45 minutes, passing through verdant jungle and crossing streams (several times). Along the way, look out for numerous fishes that shoal in the fast flowing water, which eagerly accept food tossed in with a frenzy.
Some of the Tengas fishes have been able to reach impressive sizes with the ban on fishing in the river, up to two feet in length. Eventually, you'll arrive at the main fall, which is the last of a magnificent multi-tiered cascade that drops from an 80 meter height of rocky outcrops and pools. A trail at the right side will lead visitors to the upper tiers, one which is accessible for swimming while others separated by steep cliffs. While visiting or camping, be alert during and after heavy rains, as flooding accidents have happened in Sungai Chilling that claimed lives.
