Lived in Helena, MT many years ago. From there, had the opportunity to spend a summer in Banf before returning to MO. It was a spectacular summer, one I will never forget. The glacier-carved vistas are unmatchable. The Going-To-The-Sun Highway experience is breathtakingly beautiful. And I witnessed some of the most amazing Aurora Borealis visions possible. Thanks for sparking a bit of Memory Lane buzz!

I never knew the water there was so aqua. It does liik a little milky and not to clear though. Great shot. Would love to visit there and many of the places you took photos at.

Thanks for the personalized comment! Yes, it is milky. Don't know why. And it really is that blue. Actually a little ligher but due to the dark sky creating just the right conditions, it looks even bluer here.

My trip would not have been possible without the Toyota Prius. It got 55 mpg for 12,000 miles driven over 2 months. Total gas - $750.

In a regular car, it would have costed about 3 times that and I would have felt very uncomfortable putting that kind of strain on US soldiers. The "pollution" is less of an issue to me. It's more about lives and dollars, while the environmental benefits come along automatically.

These brilliantly blue lakes get their color from "rock flour", sediment that has been transported through the rivers to the lakes. This sediment comes from rocks grinding together underneath the glacier. The fine powder is then suspended in the water and refracts sunlight therefor giving the milky turquoise appearance.
