Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, Paris

Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, Paris

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris, commonly known as Sacré-Cœur Basilica is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

A popular landmark, the basilica is located at the summit of the butte Montmartre, the highest point in the city.
Sacré-Cœur is a double monument, political and cultural, both a national penance for the supposed excesses of the Second Empire and socialist Paris Commune of 1871 crowning its most rebellious neighborhood, and an embodiment of conservative moral order, publicly dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was an increasingly popular vision of a loving and sympathetic Christ.

Nice coastline

Nice coastline

NICE, France.
one more perk of working with Honeywell. Spent a week at Nice a fortnight ago; regional sales meet.
We stayed at the Radisson Blu and I was even luckier with a 1st floor room overlooking the sea!
The beaches at Nice are all stone beaches with no real sand. Ohh yeah, one last thing the region beyond the mountains is Monacco.

Karkala Bahubali

Karkala Bahubali

I visited my native place Karkala, Karnataka recently.
My first visit after nearly 15 years! Karkala has an amazingly beautiful landmark - a massive 42 feet, single stone Bahubali statue atop a hill!
Amazing how the statue is still so well preserved and intact after over 570 years!!

Some more details about Bahubali statue (Source: www.mustseeindia.com/Karkala-Bahubali-Monolith/attraction...

Karkala is well known for its massive 42 feet monolithic statue of Bahubali the Gomateshwara, the son of the first Jain Tirthankar, believed to have been built around 1432 AD. This is a male figure in a naked posture approached by a number of rock-cut steps.

Bahubali, a local prince who trounced his brother in a war to win the kingdom, renounced worldly pleasures of life and spent 12 years in meditation; by that time climbers grew all over and around him. Veerapandya Bhairava Raja built this monolithic statue in his honor.

A festival with all mighty known as Maha Masthakaabhisheka, sacred bathing of the statue with saffron paste, milk and water, held in every 12 years. During this period thousands of Jain devotees visit this place to carry out the Mahamastakabhisheka. This statue is an awesome site and is the second tallest in the state.

Hip Hopper Grasshopper!

Hip Hopper Grasshopper!

So the story goes, that I once managed to eat a grasshopper in my sleep almost 15 years ago during a school scout camp. And ever since then some school friends have never let me ever forget this.
Alas, cant remember the taste, but can for sure..was the first and last time ever!
