Situado en Baviera cerca de Füssen- Alemania, es uno de los castillos
neogóticos más conocidos. Mandado construir por Luis II de Baviera en
1866, originalmente era conocido como el nuevo Hohenschwangau, en
honor al lugar donde el rey pasó gran parte de su infancia. Su nombre
fué cambiado tras su muerte.
Los descendientes de Luis II vendieron el castillo al gobierno bávaro,
pasando más tarde al alemán. La cantidad por la que lo vendieron
iguala a los ingresos anuales actuales que el castillo obtiene de los
turistas que vienen a visitarlo.
Fué elegido por la Disney como modelo para el castillo de La bella
durmiente (1959).
El Estado Libre de Baviera ha gastado más de 14,5 millones de euros en
Neuschwanstein para el mantenimiento, la renovación y los servicios de
visitantes desde 1990.
El castillo de Neuschwanstein participó en la elección de las Nuevas
Siete Maravillas del Mundo, pero no ganó.

Located in Bavaria near Füssen, Germany, is one of the most famous
neo-Gothic castles. Built by Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1866, was
originally known as the new Hohenschwangau, after the place where the
king spent much of his childhood. Its name was changed after his
death.
Ludwig II's descendants sold the castle to the Bavarian government,
later passing into German. The amount by which they sold equal to
current annual revenues derived from the castle tourists coming to
visit.
He was elected by Disney as a model for the castle of Sleeping Beauty
(1959).
The Free State of Bavaria has spent more than 14.5 million euros in
Neuschwanstein for the maintenance, renovation and visitor services
since 1990.
Neuschwanstein Castle participated in the election of the New Seven
Wonders of the World, but did not win.
