66, 61 and 1...

NO....it's not the number of the mathematically-challenged beast with a sweet tooth. It's just my way of thanking all of you for making this November 26th a very special day for me. Sixty-six years on this earth, 61 years with photography in my heart, and exactly one year on flickr.

The full sixty-six years have been better in every way than I deserve. The 61 years of on-and-off "picturfying" since my dad first put a camera in my hand have been a continuing source of pleasure, albeit mostly solitary in nature. BUT, oh.... this last year...I can honestly say I have gotten more sheer joy out of photography in these twelve short months than all of the other years put together.

And the difference, my dear flickr friends, is you .

Overly generous with praise and words of encouragement, always ready with help when I need it, supportive when it means so much, and even tolerant (to a fault) of my sometimes strange sense of humor...in the simplest of terms...true friends!

You're the best !!

@ weaving major: My hands were full with an 18v flashlight in one and the camera/CCRRFDv2 in the other. I placed the chunk of cake on a clean fork. The fork was placed on the "sheet-protector" at an angle with the handle supported on a little clear plastic thimble-shaped thingy. A second 18v flashlight with a plastic cup for a snoot provided high-lighting from left to right. Finally, the CCRRFDv2 MaLC was used with the S2s onboard flash set to fire on 2nd curtain sync. Spot metering on the flame finished the lighting set-up. A series of test shots were made before the candle was ever lit. They were followed by two live multishot series of about 30 seconds each with the candle extinguished between them to address the hot wax issue.

I wish I could share the cake with you all. There is just one slice left after my lunchtime dessert of a few minutes ago. It is outstanding. When it was intact, it weighed more than seven pounds. About 1/3 went home with my son and his new bride.
