Nature has a magical ability to find ways of developing in adverse circumstances. It is happening all around us and we all to often fail to reflect on the positive lessons it offers us. I myself am guilty of this and need to consciously remind myself that ‘life is good’, even when it seems misted by unwanted influences.
I wish I could live in the now, you see so much more, smell so much more, hear so much more, appreciate so much more. I from time to time get glimpses of the now, but not enough!
Note: This was taken on a visit to Brimham rocks yesterday with the Leeds flickr group, I was anxious about being there and coming away with the same kind of images as everybody else, but I now know that isn’t possible. We all see things differently, that’s what makes it so bloody interesting.
Note:Just found out that this shot has been included in the “landscape photographer of the year” book and exhibition at the national theatre in London. I’m thrilled to bits to be in the book and it’s wonderful that some good friends have also been included.

pixelda, J L M, swaza, possum4all, your all
very kind.
G0Da, to optimise the DOF I use F22 and
mount it on a tripod. I've recently been told
that the lens that I use (sigma 10-20mm) is
sharpest at F11 but I've yet to do some
tests.... I tend to concentrate on focusing
using the hypofocal distance method and hey
presto, nice and sharp.

Technical: 8. Good focus. maybe the
underside of the rock on the left needs a bit
more exposure.
Composition: 8. Good balance overall. A
rock on each side, a space in the middle with
the sky as background and a little tree that
stands out.
Eye Appeal: 8. easy on the eyes.
Commercial Viability: 8. should be
suitable for motivational posters or backdrop
in waiting rooms
Technical: 8
Focussing, exposure, tonal range, detail
works brlliantly here and this image gets a
strong 8 from the technical aspect.
Composition: 9
3 triangles put together with a tree in the
middle. Very nice. This results in a very
high eye appeal score below. Nothing to
change here. Excellent.
Eye Appeal: 9
Very pleasant to view. The composition of
this image makes for a very strong appeal
factor. I would also mention that the middle
part with the sky makes a very strong
negative space frame for the tree. That
combined with the additional frame on the
left and right makes this an extremely strong
image.
Commercial Viability: 8
This would make a great cover for NG.
This image averaged an 8.5 but I am giving
an additional 0.5 to make it a 9 because of
the strength of the image. I like your
vision. Well done in bringing it to life.
Technical: 8
Excellent contrast & rich tones...
Small size and no exif data prevent further
analysis. It looks as if +.2 EV could be used
to lighten the shadows.
Composition: 10
The gap in the rocks looks like a mini
tornado pulling at the tree. Each third of
the image has a focus point of interest.
Eye Appeal: 8
Beautiful tones are enhanced by the high
contrast. A bit more light in the shadows
would perfect it.
Commercial Viability: 9
This has fine art wall print appeal.

I've seen this tree many times, and seen
photos of it but I don't think I've seen it
looking as well as this. The angle is good,
makes it more dramatic, the textures and
lines are good. Your decision on using sepia?
is the icing on the cake. Great shot.

An excellent rockscape, Jason. The
composition is superbly balanced and it has
real depth. Very good post-processing too.
But for all its merits, the quirkiness of the
defender edges it. The wistful look of the
girl; the approaching thunderstorm brooding
in the background. It is a captivating and
unusual image still worthy of a place in the
pool
I do like the defender's image very much. The
disproportionate scale, and so much going on
makes it a lot of fun. This image I find
quite striking. The wonderfula balance from
the sky to the textured rocks, and shadowing
is amazing. Simply gorgeous.

im not quite sure about the suggested crop...
i think your composition is fine...
however, i like the defender's composition
better... sorry... i like how the
photographer had to take a low but close
angle to capture the model in the defender...
Great challenge. Love how both are such
different types of photos. The defender's is
interesting but doesn't capture my attention
like the challenger's. I love the textures,
treatment and organic feel of this.

Challenger's capture is wonderful as it has
shuch a wonderful melding of rocks and
clouds. The detail and the light are
