Mutiny In The Air

Mutiny In The Air by jasontheaker.
Over the last few days I’ve been dipping my toe into twitter...I’ve heard so much about it that I thought I’d give it a bash... It occurred to me that this medium can be used in a more creative way; I just have to work it out!

Funny I first heard of it a few years ago when a student was explaining to me just how important it was for her to be able to let friends know that she was doing...Surprisingly she even posted tweets saying she was watching a band, sitting on a train and even out on a walk with the parents in law! Now to be honest I didn’t get it then and I’m still wondering now whey I should consider this as a creative direction.

Anyway moving on quickly, the problem I have with it, is that it just seems like things are becoming shallower...I mean, micro blogging? Come on, can you imagine me condensing my thoughts into a few sentences!!! (I’m sure some would prefer that). My reservations firmly reside in the feeling that our society is multitasking its way downhill, (tweeting, blogging, texting, msn, email, TV, blar blar blar). It feels like that the depth of thought that is only achieved by concentrating for a very long time on any activity is working its way into history. Now I may just be an old fart, and the new and exciting developments that seem to be popping up from everywhere, are in fact exciting developments to be embraced, but I can’t help wondering what is happening to our society as a result.

Interestingly, I heard a psychologist on Radio 4 sometime early in the year, (sorry, don’t remember her name) talking about the way our teenagers brains are slightly different as a result of the more varied stimulus. Their neural pathways are physically wired up differently to us normal people, resulting from their altered environment. MAN! What will happen when these kids become adults? When they are expected to run the country?

Sorry but I’m digressing. Anyway, I’ve dipped my toe into the water and it doesn’t feel too cold, yet. So I decided to get on the ship, to be honest I haven’t a clue where it’s going, but that doesn’t seem to bother everybody else on board. I am still wondering why, but trying to work out how to make my way to the control room... (I can smell mutiny in the air; I just have to work out how to gather troops).
Oh, the shot was from this summer’s Cornish holiday. What attracted me to the spot was the receding waves and how the water makes such lovely shapes when it moves over things...anyway maybe I will sum up the shot in too sentences on Twitter...

As for twitter... It happend to me that I have no time to write something long except for my photo description here. So flickr became my blog and when I just want to say something or share a link I use twitter.

Love the picture, hate the Twitter...life is too important and eventful to be summed up in a tweet, whatever the hell that is! Writing has become a lost art as evidenced by my own kids school work. Grammar, spelling and the English (or any other language) are being lost to acronyms, poor spelling and shallow thinking.............it's a shame.

Not only are you an old fart, but you are also square!!!

I absolutely adore the image Jas, the way the rocks seem to mirror the waves, the movement, highlights from the setting sun, timing and the exposure, spot on.

As for Twitter and it's "generation" (isn't Stephen Fry one of it's greatest advocates, which raises questions?) - the way I understand it, those young with a different wiring are in fact MORE intelligent than our (TV?) generation. Where we spent our time relatively passively absorbing the goggle box, they are in fact being participative and interactive. Hardly matters that it's short if it's better than total catatonia. Not that I don't hope some may share interesting thoughts one day!

Nature, subdivided. Land, sea, and air, in equal measures, square crop. They are all linked by movement, the foreground water, the distance, the rising sun - a clever image, well thought out, and a cracking picture too boot

ooh square! ... I like this one. The textures in the fg and flow of the water are great. (I tried cropping the top close to the sun to see if it made the flowing water more of a focal point. It does a bit but not sure if you lose elswhere at the same time. For me it's that water flow that makes the picture)

Superb. I like the simplicity of this, being mainly made up of horizontal bands of colour and different textures. I'm looking forward to a stay up your way in Whitby next week. Charging batteries and cleaning filters in preparation. I have a fairly long list of places to go with the camera, but if you have any suggestions of places you feel are a little off the beaten track or not in the guide books I'd be interested to hear.
