egg & nest

Upon returning home from work yesterday I found this bird's nest in my front yard. There were empty eggshells nearby and this one perfect egg.
It has been very windy here the past several days and this nest fell from high in my neighbor's pine tree to my front yard.
The nest and the egg are both so perfect I couldn't bring myself to throw them out so here they sit on my front porch.
It's a little sad though, I wonder what has become of the mother Robin with no nest to tend?

Oh, this is so beautiful -- but the tale is so sad! I'm glad you saved the nest and shared the picture.

beautiful nest and egg, poor little guy. maybe this one wasn't going to hatch anyway, or the nest just blew down.

thank you ftoomschb for the comment, and maybe you're right - this one just might not have been meant to hatch.

it's quite difficult to find a lonely object in "lonely objects" but this one is evocatively so...

      No Aquaeyes she never did.
I'm hoping that she found a more stable spot for her next nest.
The good news is that soon after this I discovered a chickadee nest on my porch and they all made it out of the nest A ok!

Nice shot and story. I haven't seen a bird nest with egg for some time; then again I can't remember the last time I climbed a tree : )
Reminds me of youth in more ways than one.

      thanks jenny!
      thanks musicman - I haven't climbed a tree in I don't know how long either - LOL!
Hopefully all the nests will stay in the tree next year.

Let's say she built another nest, mated again, and is ready for the next brood. Oh I see this is from last year! I hope she is back with beter luck this year.
