- fantastic pattern! - Franck Vervial
Abraham Lake Winterscape
Here's another from my recent travels up to Alberta, Canada. The patterns in the ice were fantastic as usual. Thanks for all the thoughtful critiques on my previous post. As usual, your comments and critiques are greatly appreciated! Thanks for looking. Chip

I love this location and your shots of it Chip. The first time I saw an image from here was one of your closer crops and I just thought it was an isolated part of the lake. Then I saw that it covered this large of an area and I almost died. :) So freaking cool. Do you know why the lake freezes like that?

Wow

Thanks guys!
Aaron-The lake is pretty shallow, and there is a lot of freezing, thawing, and re-freezing. I think the huge slabs of ice buckle from all that to cause the cracking. Some years, there are huge cracks about 2 or 3 feet high.

Flippin sweet hardly expresses even remotely the words of praise this shot deserves, Chip, so take it for what it's worth. Superb leading lines to pull you in and how the clouds line up to mirror that extremely interesting foreground is just pure bliss!
