I've been reading Chris Orwig's new book, People Pictures: 30 Exercises. This is exercise #1. A quick portrait with natural lighting. I did cheat a little. I placed a reflector camera right to get a little fill on his face.

I haven't shared a photo of my main man Aman with you for quite some time. He's growing so fast and I haven't pointed my camera lens at him in quite some time. Most of the time he's a great sport. Even though I know he's thinking, oh no...Dad has his camera out again :)

“The artist is a receptacle for the emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web.”
Pablo Picasso

A quiet summer morning walk can yield many things; one of them being wonder. The great wonder of your surroundings. The many wonders of our natural environment. Sometimes it's hard to slow down and take time to make these magnificent discoveries. But this day i did take the time and i'm very thankful.

is but a dream within a dream.

is but a dream within a dream.

A Dream Within a Dream
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow—
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand—
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep—while I weep!
O God! Can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! Can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?
~Edgar Allan Poe

I couldn't sleep last night. I'm pretty tired today. So, I thought about how nice it would be to be dreaming right now. Then I found this image I took yesterday morning and this poem by Mr Poe on writers almanac.
With a little time and a lot of fun this is what i came up with. Now I'm sharing it with you. I hope you have a happy Friday :)

Perry Cabin

Perry Cabin

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is Perry Cabin, located north of the parking lot next to Sprague Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was constructed by Abner Sprague in 1921. It's constructed of round logs with square corner notching.
It was a guest cabin at Sprague's Lodge until 1957. It was purchased by the NPS in 1932 from Mr. Sprague. The Sprague family operated the lodge under contract with the NPS until its closure in 1957. Now it sits vacant.

All our progress is an unfolding, like a vegetable bud. You have first an instinct, then an opinion, then a knowledge as the plant has root, bud, and fruit. Trust the instinct to the end, though you can render no reason. Ralph Waldo Emerson // I came upon this tree walking to one of my favorite places, the Oklahoma State University Library. You can find lovely trees almost anywhere. I think they really loved to be discovered. // Anyway, I was looking for The Minds Eye by Henri Cartier-Bresson. So far I'm really enjoying his words and wisdom.
