Laptop stickers

Laptop stickers by Phil Hawksworth.
I'm not sure if I want to complete the circle or not. I quite like the feeling of a work in progress.

Do the stickers have to be "geek" specific?!?

Phil Hawksworth  Pro User  says:

Nope they don't have to be geek stickers, but it helps. I have some Winter Park stickers I need to add now that you mention it.

You mean it's not a circle yet? I beg to differ!

Yeah Ace_NoOne, It's the illusory contours that I really like and make me not want to fill it all up.

I don't mind you saying so, pixellent!
In fact I urge others to say the same ;)

Phew. Actually, they have done, but unless you also have exceptional hearing, you might've missed it :)

How did you create the circle?

Phil Hawksworth  Pro User  says:

Tim,

I made myself a template by cutting a circle out of a piece of paper. Then I just used that template to shape the stickers which overlapped with the circle boundary. I have the template folded up in a drawer so that I can use it whenever I want to add another sticker to the circle's edge.

Nick,

Cool! The EFF stickers were the only ones that I actually bought (by making a donation to the Electronic Frontier Foundation). A worthy cause.

Don't complete the circle. The incomplete circle is a nice counterpoint to the centered Apple logo. Looks great by the way!

@Welcometoalville

I agree. I think I'll stop short of a complete circle.

@Iain Farrell

Thanks! It was a very low-tech paper stencil job. I'm going to blog it since so many people have now asked.

@ruthdickson

Thanks! Great shot of those pencils by the way. (I was going to embed a thumbnail of them here but couldn't since they have all rights reserved.) Have you thought about a similar shot of multicoloured pencil shavings?

How did you cut the stickers out so they perfectly left the apple logo in the center showing? I mean I tried to cut a template out of a piece of cardboard and I'm having trouble working out how much curve needs to be cut as it is, a tutorial would be super!

I mean when the template covers the laptop you can't really see if the sticker is going to overlap another etc, and from what I can see you even cut stickers (firefox) so it did'nt overlap dopplr... now that is some precision stuff since you can't really see how much needs to be cut off...

arrrggh, its got me in a spin.

I'm guessing more than using the template.

I was just looking back through my favourites and saw that you'd replied to my comment an AGE ago. =P

Yeah I ended up making everything all rights reserved as I got fed up with finding photos of mine being used by others without any form of credit, but it's a shame it stops people who then mean good!

I hadn't thought about that, but it's an idea I'm now rather interested in looking into...

Claudefrancois,

Thanks. I got most of the yahoo stickers from a big single sticker sheet that they often give out at conferences or events where they are speaking. If Yahoo! are attending anthying near you, I'd be willing to bet that someone while bring along a load of stickers.
