Venison in Wild Mustard (best seen large!)
While driving through DeSoto Bend Wildlife Reserve in eastern Nebraska on Monday, Robin and I spooked a doe and 2 fawns near the side of the road. All three bolted into a huge field, at least 100 acres, of wild mustard.
The fawns were immediately out of sight. Only the doe was visible as she would occasionally leap above the wild mustard, presumably to show the yearlings where she was.
Later, we would walk into one of these fields and estimate the height of these plants to be anywhere from 4'-5' in height.
This is a shot of the doe in mid leap. I estimate her head to be about 8 feet in the air!
