thats why i asked, I'm betting they steamed the wood and bent it, sometimes they will cut it out of 3 blocks and dove-tail it together, then carve down. I'm coming to like the seat stitching the most, especially the reflections of it. I really wish I had time to do this sort of trials with my set up Rhino4 + Maxwell 1.2

I have just had a look at my own CH_24 chairs and in answer to Ben+_+ question the back rest rod is made from a single bent piece of wood, which in my case is maple not birch and as Peter acknowledges the grain is indeed horizontal, not vertical.
