A live Red-Eared Slider Turtle Trachemys scripta elegans in the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers "Flowers of the Jurrasic" exhibition, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA. Taken by a Nikon D40x with a Nikon 18-55mm VR kit lens (at 55) Cropped heavily.
This species of turtle is not a "native to San Francisco" species, (or native to California), but has established itself at Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park... this is the common pet turtle, but here in California, is now considered an invasive species, as it out-competes our native Western Pond Turtle, Actinemys marmorata. (but those weren't at Stow Lake...)
in my group postings, I'm acting on the assumption that this is a feral from Stow Lake, temporarily captured for the exhibition mentioned, and will be returned to S.L. when that exhibition ends.,
