Another scene from my helicopter trip earlier this month. At this point, we were passing by Wonder Peak to get our first close-up view of Mount Assiniboine. That's Marvel Lake in the bottom of the valley.
Our ultimate destination. Sometimes referred to as the "Matterhorn of North America" for its resemblance to that iconic peak of the Alps. At 11,870 ft in height, it is the 6th tallest mountain in Alberta.
Another photo showing the cloud (fog?) bank sitting atop the ice fields. In this photo, the clouds are spilling over the edge of the mountains and seemingly spilling downward. A fascinating phenomenon.
Behind the mountain are the Columbia Icefields. The ice fields appear to be creating their own weather, with this bank of clouds sitting atop them. Driving along the Icefields Parkway, we witnessed this phenomenon for many miles.
