    Someone took a photo of me while i was sketching this, in san francisco's north beach neighbourhood. She tapped me on the shoulder and asked if it was ok. Of course!

      How did you become fascinated by hydrants? I like your sketches of them, since here in Holland you hardly ever see any. They're all underground.

      Well, for the same reason really, being from england we don't have them either (they're underground) so when i moved to america I liked seeing them everywhere, because it reminded me of picture books i used to read when i was a kid, like richard scarry's books. When i started drawing them i liked spotting the differences in each, and there are so many! I don't know much about them, but i like that they are ever present urban characters.
