toy windmills

toy windmills by peter schmid.
i was riding on my skateboard down to school one day when i noticed a field in the middle of campus was absolutely covered in these small, colorful windmills.

I like this shot. I really do. (It looks quite nice at the bigger size.)

But the defender's shot is so wonderfully blurry, yet masterfully composed. The cigarette in the hand, the back of the mysterious guest, and the overall tonality all work together in harmony. The sum of the parts make it to me a more successful composition.

DOF, color, sharp foreground focus. No contest for me.

i agree (almost too much) with bigbuckaroo..

this is a great shot, and i love how the windmills trail off into little wisps of color.

there is just something so raw and visceral about the defenders shot. i feel like a voyeur into a very private moment. i would never have access to this scene otherwise. the cigarette is a huge kicker too. it appears that halfway through his smoke, inspiration struck and he HAD to take the picture. you know?

gotta go with polaroidjesus on this one. Though this shot is crisp, gives off a nice wave of HappyHappyJoyJoy, the defender's shot evokes Cool in a very Hunter Thompson way. It's much more active, alive, showing us part of a story.

It's like a vignette of the Summer of Love contrasted with the furtive anti-establishment rutting of the 70s and 80s. Don't mind me though :~) The challenger's image has a pleasant face to it but I'm left wanting to see all those other windmills. As it stands they're so far out of focus what must have been a lovely and unique scene is left somewhat sparse if still jolly. The defender's image is sheer gonzo laced with whatever back story one might wish to inject it with.

It is interesting the similarities to these two images. Foreground image to the right, more focused, secondary image towards the left rear. Almost identical color tones, yellow and greens.

This image of the windmills is a good shot, but when I leave it, I don't remember it. It is a passing smile. The hotel image sticks with me. One of those uneasy dreams that you just cant shake. I have to vote to keep it around.
