Upscale Silicon Valley suburbs that were fruit orchards 50 years ago.

USGS image data acquired 2004-02-27. The B&W band at the bottom is from the 1953 image uploaded by Steve, because the high-res color image data ends there.

This is one of the very first photos I saw when I joined Flickr on August 15 2005.

It still impresses me how orchards can quickly disappear to give way to housing developments. I am sure the orchards offered a far more beautiful view, especially when blossoming.

Here are interesting links back to why this development most likely occurred in the first place.

      Thanks, Mimosa!

After living in Silicon Vallley for a while, it seems that things can change or even disappear all too quickly -- 50 years seems like a long time. :-)

I turned 54 at the end of October and I have a lot of memories from as early as 6 months old when I arrived in my hometown so I DO know what 50 years feels like. My small suburban town across the river from Montréal has changed so much! The whole area consisting in part of middle to upper-middle class suburbs (which is probably developed a bit like Silicon Valley over a large area but less affluent since the wealth in your area is exceptional) has changed quite a lot in 54 years.
