    Wow amazing image! I wonder what some of the larger features mean? What are those lines spanning different continents?

    Impressive snapshot of an ever evolving and improving impressive project in 2008.

    @petz: The lines spanning different continents were some ways erroneously added to the database. I personally removed two of them in Africa.

    those evenly spread long straight stretches must be the optimal route for Santa this xmas. They are long so that his sleigh can maintain high (light) speed without slowing down too much for turning and loosing valuable time :)

    I have updated the image today. Some of 'Santa's routes' have already been removed but some still remain. It would be great to have them cleared by Xmas when the image will be used as 'Image of the Week' on the OpenStreetMap home page.

    I have removed santa's route through the Bay of Bengal. I have difficulties finding the nodes for the others.

    Removed the one from Spain to Florida and South America and the one from Russia to eastern Canada.

    D Tucny has deleted way 27597540 which ran from a lake in Canada into the Atlantic, across South America, out into the Pacific and back again

    I have updated the image to include edits up to midnight UTC 5th Dec 2008. There are now only a small number of remaining issues. A line in the gulf of Mexico crossing into Panama, and also one heading north out of Finland (sort of appropriate for Santa) but I think it has to go! Note that the dodgy line heading out from eastern Australia was removed earlier today.
