Forget not bees in winter,
"Forget not bees in winter, though they sleep / For winter's big with summer in her womb."
-Sackville-West,Vita (Victoria Mary) The Land,'Spring'.
For some reason this line, from this little poem, has stuck with me since, oh, 1990.

People's Foods
I've been going here since the 80s.
Nothing has changed since then, save for the fact that
they took the Imperial Burger off the menu.
I love old-school diners. There are fewer and fewer of them in the city.
Many are ruinovated, and made into hipster nightspots which
assuredly won't last as long as these traditional places have.
RIP, The Stem (for example).
Always a good meal at People's Foods.

suddenly
My Dad had a fall at home, probably Friday night. He doesn't really remember. He managed to knock out a tooth, and break his shoulder and fracture his pelvis. Ouch.
We were very worried, as we were unable to reach him. He wasn't found until Sunday morning, thus having spent two nights on the basement floor. I was so deeply worried I can't describe it.
So, he's in a hospital, and eating well and is much more alert. What a horrible experience for him. This is also going to mean a few months of rest and recuperation, and physiotherapy, and a change in his living situation.
Looking after ageing parents is a huge responsibility, and one which most of us people in 'the west' don't really think about. Until something like this happens.
I'm so glad he's on the mend.
Thanks for the flickr love, everyone!
