Multnomah Falls
This picture is of the Benson Bridge and the upper and lower tiers of the 620-foot Multnomah Falls, which is located east of Portland in the Columbia River Gorge.
There is an impressive trail system above Multnomah Falls and the nearby Wahkeena Falls. I did a loop of about 10 miles from Multnomah Falls to Devil's Rest Viewpoint to Wahkeena Falls and back to Multnomah Falls Lodge on August 8.
The forests in the Gorge offer a huge contrast with the forests of the Tetons and Yellowstone. They are so much denser, with more ferns, mosses, etc. There were times I expected Sasquatch to storm out of the underbrush. I was also impressed with the sheer variety of types of vegetation.
