Old Curiosity Shop ?

Old Curiosity Shop ? by Penman2.
Instinctively I doubt the veracity of their assertion, but who knows ?

It's definitely the right building, just down from Lincolns Inn fields if I remember correctly? It just didn't used to be a shoe shop.

Really ? Are we certain that it inspired Dickens (your location is correct) ?

Well, I can't completely back that claim. I suppose I am guilty of just recounting what I've been told without questioning it.

I do note that it has had the same wording for a while, but repainted at some point (and lamps and signs added), and you can see from your pic that it (the building) is alledged to have been built in 1567.

Elsewhere there are claims that it is London's oldest shop, and dates from just after publication - but the book was published starting in 1840. I can see that more research is required!
