Snowy Owl

Snowy Owl

Here's another shot of one of the snowy owls I saw recently. They seemed to prefer standing on pieces of driftwood instead of on the beach itself. Such gorgeous creatures! It was a real thrill to see them all.

Five Snowy Owls

Five Snowy Owls

Made a trip over to the mainland to a) get Dal's van fixed and b) try to see the snowy owls I'd heard were hanging out in big numbers around Boundary Bay. Well, it turns out I didn't have to worry about "trying" to see an owl...there must've been at least 30 owls there, many of them very close to the gravel walkway along the dyke. Wow, what a sight! I've never even seen a snowy owl before, never mind so many of them. It was thrilling to say the least. And as you can see by the picture below, many photographers were enjoying the spectacle too...

My thanks to the very talented (and surprisingly young) photographer Jess Findlay for kindly giving me directions on how to find the owls. It was worth the ferry trip!

A Toast to You!

A Toast to You!

Here's an old picture of Tipsy celebrating. (Not really...it's just colored water...no squirrels were harmed in the making of this picture.) I wish she was still around to bring in the new year with. My new squirrel Nellie is coming along...not so nervous anymore.

Have fun but be safe tonight, and all the very best to you in the coming year!

All Wide-Eyed Innocence

All Wide-Eyed Innocence

This is just one of the many bunnies I saw hopping around Vancouver Island during our camping trips there this past summer. The island's overrun with rabbits! I'm sure people often buy them as pets and then change their minds and release them. I've had a couple of rabbits over the years and they make wonderful pets but it's really something you should think about carefully before diving in.
