La Paz, Bolivia
Another view of La Paz from the road that winds down the mountain from El Alto to downtown La Paz. An interesting tidbit about the architecture. I was told that you don't pay property taxes while your house is under construction. Guess what? People do not finish the construction, so you see lots of brichk building that are meant to have the walls stuccoed, and lots of buildings with the iron concrete reinforcement bars sticking out the top to support the new story that may never be built. Nicer large.
ISO 800, 28mm, f5.6, 1/400sec. Used Photomatix first to get detail back. Two rounds of Imagenomic Noiseware reducation with different setting in the buildings and cloud and mountains. Then Nik Tonal Contrast, Pro Contrast and Graduated Filters. Dodge, burn and smart sharpen in Photoshop.

Oh goodness - high density !! The same tax rule applies in many countries and means that there are many unfinished building making a very untidy looking landscape. The red glow on the mountains is stunning.

I hear La Paz has a massive new Building and Safety Division
annexed to it's Department of City Planning.
If you can find it....

That is world-class special, my friend. Memorably powerful. Would make a magnificent poster (maybe it already is?). The transition from original capture to final format is artfully spectacular!
This next comment is not meant as any manner of criticism, just a suggestive question. Would you ever consider another version, simply without the commercial travel-poster-style label at the bottom. Your photo imagery effort is so artfully accomplished that it could more than hold its own in a wall-size gallery presentation. Applause!

Looks like a painting! Nice use of processing
Silly tax laws.
Svedek (43 months ago | reply)
Fantastic view and treatment, almost like an abstract in the lower part. Similar law is applied in Greece, I guess, where a lot of houses remain unfinished with "roofs" full of iron wires.

Wonderful image, thanks for the processing info. I've always wanted to go to Bolivia, ever since doing a report on the country in grade school, many years ago.
