Hummingbird Dive Bomber

    Newer Older

A friend has a hummingbird feeder outside on his patio (cheers Matt!) and these little guys are darting in and out like mini missiles. Wings beating 60 - 80 times a second! At a shutter speed of 1/1600th of a second, his wings are still blurred!

They seem to be very territorial too, chasing off other hummers and swwoping really close to humans too!!

I think this species is Anna's Hummingbird but I could be wrong, I don't know much about birds.

Wonderful capture. I love hummers for their beauty as well as their unique defensive system. Just a beautiful photo.

Nice Capture! I'm still trying to get one of these myself. Ours in Wisconsin are not so agressive and fly off at the slightest move so capturing one is a real challenge.
