Peace Corps Agriculture Volunteers work with small farm operators to
increase food production while promoting environmental conservation
practices. They introduce techniques that replenish the soil, prevent soil
erosion, and reduce the use of harmful pesticides. They work alongside
farmers on integrated projects that often combine vegetable gardening,
livestock management, agroforestry, and food security.
Volunteers promote fruit and vegetable crops to improve a community’s nutrition. Volunteers also help implement agribusiness programs to market and sell surplus food more effectively, working with small-scale farmers, farmers’ cooperatives, businesses, and nongovernmental organizations.
