More star trails

More star trails by Computer Science Geek.
Seems people really love star trails. So I made another from yesterday/early this morning. This is made from 216 individual 30 second frames shot at f/3.2 and ISO 400 for a complete exposure of 108 minutes.

Great shot. How many hours of exposure was that? Excellent work.

You're right.
This is 'uckin' COOL!

And how did we assemble 216 shots again?
Bless you for having the patience, Phil.

Fantastic! I'm guessing your layering method prevented the light from the window from being overblown?

Have I said 'Fantastic!'?

I've made it a mission to give this a try next time I get out of the city (which could be a while)... I'll definitely have to study your notes first!

CSG: Very nice! I confirm your observation about people liking star trails. I have been selling night landscapes for many years, and while my own artistic preference is for "realistic" star photos (whatever that is), I have also noticed that many people do indeed like star trails. My own most popular image on flickr is a star trail:

Mt. Hood / Meteor / Airliner

Why this fascination with star trails? My lame, off-the-cuff hypothesis is that we are told that the earth is a rotating globe, but we cannot tell that by watching the sun move through the daylight sky. Time exposures at night re-assure us that the world is indeed round.
