The Solaire is a $120 million, 293 unit luxury apartment building in Battery Park City, a development on Lower Manhattan's Hudson River waterfront (just west of the World Trade Center site). The building received a LEED-NC (1.0) Gold rating, making it one of the world's premier green buildings.
Green features include photovoltaic panels, an on-site graywater reclamation system, a rainwater garden and green roofs, very high efficiency building systems, advanced water and air filtration, and recycled and low-impact building materials. The building is sited adjacent to the Hudson River greenway and within a short walk of downtown Manhattan. These photos were taken during a building tour given as part of Open House New York on 11 October 2003. The architect of the building was Rafael Pelli of Cesar Pelli & Associates.
