1953 Dance Party

Her date was a guy from the MS Delta! He was of Chinese ancestry. That's all the details I could pull out of her.
she looks happy =)
Love, love, love this wallpaper!
This dress is gorgeous, it is like a Wedding dress.
1953 Dance Party by Patrick Q.
This is the final copy. Scroll down to see the original print and scan from the negative. Best viewed large size. It's not cropped narrow - it's extra long!

Mom is in the green dress on the right. The dress reminds me of that "Bare Naked Ladies" song "If I had a Million Dollars." You remember that line, "If I had a million dollars, I'd buy you a green dress, but not a REAL green dress, that's CRUEL..." That old green gown hung in a closet up in my grandmother's attic from 1953 until we emptied her home when she died, about 40 years later... Was she a packrat? You betcha!

Thanks, Broncopolli, I had to work a little while on Adobe PS to restore it. Nice to hear it worked. Thanks for adding it as a favorite.

THIS is a prime example of what I hope the group will be about. Not only have I favorited it, I have downloaded its max size simply to savor it. Outstanding capture of a rare and spontaneous moment from American culture.

Todd, thank you so much for your interest. That means alot!

The one above is a scan from the negative, with some Adobe PS color correction.

Check out how badly the print aged:

Bad Photo!

Here is the original scan from the negative before Photoshop:

Thank God for good software and a little TLC:

You did a great job on the restoring. I love the wallpaper, too. It reminds me of the wallpaper in the house were I lived the first two years of my life.

I love old pics. You may have motivated me to go through my old boxes of b&w photos and bring something back to life. Really enjoyed your story, also.

@krenp - Thanks!

@CaptPiper - This was at a neighbor's home, but my grandmother had wallpaper like this, too. It must have been popular back then.

@wam mosely - snapshots are a great window into the past. Seeing one like this makes me want to take some for my own kids to discover someday!

@mmlobster - The bubble gum colors of 50's photography hold a special place in my imagination!

@Zenith Phuong - Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the story! I liked sharing it, too.

@oybay - If you do post some, drop me a line. I'd love to see them. Happy hunting!

Very nice. But no color profile on it. If you have Photoshop it comes with Adobe Gamma. It allows you to calibrate your monitor & use a color profile. That way we can all see it as you did it.

Oh, thanks for telling me. I'm a total novice when it comes to Photoshop. I just got the "Elements" version and am trying it out. I'll look for that.

Uncle Jerry in Golden Valley, AZ says:

Did you get Elements 4? I use it for 90% of my restorations now. As it does some things very well & very easily. But for difficult work I use PS7.

I have my monitor calibrated for Adobe RGB. So if you don't have an embedded profile the colors often seem "off".

Elements 3. Someday, I'll gather the gumption to buy the full version. I'll try to figure out the calibration thing. :)
