Petrol Banksy
I took this at the London "Stop The War" demo in March 2006.
Taken in Parliament Square London, opposite the House of Commons. Part of Brian Haw's peace camp, almost all of which was trashed by police after Tony Bliar forced legislation through parliament trying to ban his protest. (Brian's still there though, which must annoy Bliar, see parliament-square.org.uk/ ) I had no idea that it was a Banksy at the time, otherwise I would have taken the time to frame it properly. There's a (small) picture of this on page 222 of Banksy's book 'Wall and Piece' . I got the name wrong too, should have been 'Petrol Head' . The ' banksy - the complete works' group doesn't seem to have this one, so I thought I'd upload it despite the flaws. According to www.artofthestate.co.uk/banksy/banksy_petrol_head_hop.htm the original canvas put in the square was stolen, and had to be replaced. This picture must be of the replacement. This design also appeared on the Blur 'Think Tank' album artwork. The old hippy leaning on the canvas doesn't seem too happy having his picture taken. Maybe he should find a Banksy 'this is not a photo opportunity' place to sit instead? All comments welcome, good and bad. CommentsPatrick John Quinn says:Thanks, Rosa
