Luis Puente was my grandfather, this Yashica was his last camera that he took everywhere. He loved photography and anything related to technology. He had lots of positive influence in my life. He would had loved flickr. Luis died in 1991, so he did not see all these new things, or who knows maybe he is looking. This photo is dedicated to you Luchito. A photo of your camera that you always had with you. I will always remember you grandpa. Now your photos are a treasure to me.

Here are some of his photos

I just want to know how to separate out:

1. your incredible skill as a photographer
2. your EOS-1Ds Mark II
3. your Canon 85mm f/1.2 lens

If I put that lens on my 20D (my wife would kill me) I'd still be lacking the Mark II and your brain.

If I bought a Mark II and that lens (my wife would kill me many times over) I'd still be lacking your brain.

Dang man, you are making the photographs of my dreams; you are going exactly where I want to go although may never get. Yes, the journey is fun too but dang... your photographs make me ache with joy (and jealousy).

All of this is meant as a huge compliment on your wonderful eye and skill. Yes, you have great equipment but same equipment in lesser hands (mine, for instance) would not have produced this picture.

richard, you echo my thoughts exactly (well except the stuff about the camera--i don't own any canon anything:). as i browsed through this stream, i kept alternating between "oh WOW i can't wait to get out and shoot again to get more practice" and "wow, i really ought to hang it up; he's doing things just as i would like to already! i may as well just enjoy his pix, as i'll never be this good!"

must
continue
shooting

*and* enjoy these great, warm photos.

isaidjon: our thoughts are echo/bouncing back and forth... kind of nice.

I think we can do both: continue shooting, even try to learn from and emulate some of Carlos's great work and also watch what he comes up with next and sit back in awe.

The flickr community can feel vortexy at times: comment jealousy, wanting recognition, etc. and then Carlos comes along and humbly drops some great work on us and does it in such an understated, adult way.

I also like your use of the term "warm" which is exactly it: warm colors and warmth of human spirit. Well said isaidjon.

diego.

I agree. That IS an excellent camera. I have two of them. One is an Electro 35 GSN, which I bought from Goodwill, and the other one is a GS, which my grandmother gave me. Ironically, my grandfather used that GS up until his passing in 1994. It just hung there on the coat tree for 13 years, without a battery, while my grandmother used her inexpensive Konica camera.

I should really get that roll of film that was in the camera developed...
