I used the bracket function of the D80. I think I set the EV to 1 stop in the end. I took several shots handheld cause my tripod is shot. And to make things more fun, the wind kept blowing the leaf in the middle in circles. I did absolutely nothing to the individual shots.
In Corel, I used the HDR Merge function and picked 3 or 4 of the photos (1 with flash), clicked the Align button, increased the brightness by quite a bit and clarity a mite. Since this all made the snow a bit gold, I opened up one of the straight shots, grabbed the proper white snow colour, and using the fill tool started from the top and worked my way round. When it streaked towards the leaves, I stopped. I should note that I don't like the way Corel handles NEF files and prefer to convert them to JPG before I start playing with them, but here I didn't do that.
