The Kalkeri School of Music, Dharwad-India
|
Agathe and Mathieu had a dream...
Mathieu- along with his wife Agathe, run the Kalkeri School of Music in
Dharwad, India. He and his family have
spent nearly twenty years in Dharwad,
India.
They studied Hindustani Classical Music
at the Dharwad University for years and
know so much about the Indian culture
and music, that I was surprised at their
knowledge and of course his crisp hindi
and kannada.
Agathe and he, with their 4 daughters
live in Dharwad for 6 months and the
rest in Quebec, Canada where he runs
another Music School under the Young
Musicians of World project.
The Kalkeri School of Music is their
baby and vision for a better world, for
a better means to our existence, giving
music as a sense of purpose to the
younger generation.
All of us have our dreams and 'life
plan' that propels us through the
vagaries of life.
I wish I had a vision and passion like
Mathieu's....
Mathieu has a dream and he leaves
nothing to stop him from getting there.
Like someone said - 'Don't part with
your illusions. When they are gone, you
may still exist, but you have ceased to
live....'
In life it's just one passion and
vision that you need to have, as an
alibi for life, a thing to life for and
the very same thing to die for...
isn't it?
Agathe and Mathieu would put any desi
to shame, what with their understanding
of Hindustani Classical music, hindi,
kannada and l'il bit of Sanskrit too!
The Kalkeri School of Music was founded by Mathieu Fortier, Agathe
Meurisse-Fortier, Blaise Fortier and
Ustad Hameed Khan in October 2001 in
Dharwad, India.
This is a part of a project called the
‘Young Musicians of the World’ was
founded in June 2002 in Quebec, Canada
by Mathieu, Agathe and Blaise.
Young Musicians of the World is a
non-profit organization, without any
religious or political affiliation, that
provides schooling and training in
traditional music to children and
teenagers for free.
My friends and I visited the Kalkeri
School of Music over a weekend and had
one of the most moving experiences ever
in our lives! And when I say “We” I
really am speaking on behalf of all of
us, really!
The time I spent at the Kalkeri School
goes on record as one of my best times,
ever!
I was moved to tears by the performance
and I cherish every moment spent with
the kids.
Now I know where to go when ones needs
a little and peace and LOT of joy, in
this rather distressed and trite city
lives we lead!
My friends – Asha Mokashi, Vasant Mokashi, Nitya, Chirag, Koshy
and I have plans of working with the KSM
to help up raise funds (corporates),
raise awareness and get them some
publicity in the city.
You can read more and get to know how
'You' can help us, help them in the <Blog developed and maintained by Asha.
The kids have so much talent and music,
that it's overwhelming!!
God bless mathieu and Agathe!
